I work with a Tamil woman and she asked me to, she wanted to see a difference. Eventually I will do a Punjabi as well. India is big, so it is kind of obvious that the average Tamil would stand out in Punjab, and vice versa. Similar to China, but even more so. There is a big North/South differential.

A real person from kerala
I think the Average Bollywood actors are the closest to a Punjabi-Kashmiri “northwest indian” type. Since most Bollywood actors and actresses do have Punjabi origins, making this Bollywood composite the closest to that of an average Punjabi face. Well thats if you also minus the fact that these are celebrities chosen on looks, and not just everyday people chosen of the streets.

I think People should stop over-exaggerating any small differences found among fellow south indians. Yes there variations within kerala itself, but the people are still on average closer to a mahogany-brown skin tone. you can almost compare kerala people somewhat with srilankan sinhalese, and the “Average South Indian Female” face(not sharp features) does look like that of many typical kerala woman.
plus south indians like aishwarya rai, shilpa shetty and deepika padukone aren’t from kerala-state about rather kannada-state(Mangalore) to the north. Their is nothing unique about kerala.

Uzbeks and Mongols (from your different) have similar head shapes and general features which is altered by Mongoloid and Europid admixture within. I’d like to see Kazakh average, which I guess would look similar to Uzbek and Mongol average

It’s problematic to paint average Israeli male, since the ashkenaz and the sephard populations are not too mixed, to lesser extent, but still similar to races in the US.

what about pakistan? i suppose to most people we would fall into the ‘indian’ category (to some extent this is true with regards to punjabis/sindhis who aren’t much different to north indians). but there is an element of laziness to this view i think. there are many different groups of people mainly in the north – in azad kashmir, gilgit- baltistan and the north-west who tend to be overlooked. maybe its nitpicking but if you can accept the diferences between north and south indians why not do a composite pakistani face? or whatever.

I’d love to see the average/composite Bangladeshi face. We’re part of South Asia and have dark skin but because we border Burma, there is a Mongoloid element in the features, with the average Bengali not being as sharp featured as say a Pakistani or North Indian.

a few questions and comments:what was the average age or age range of people for the photos used to create the composites – I’m just curious – all the photos made good looking examples of their representative nationalities – was perceived attractiveness used to choose photos for the composite, or did the averaging of photos just cause that?, Also would be nice to see North-American First Nations cultures – eastern, plains and coastal peoples are known to have unique features so it would be nice to see this separately (and the average Canadian face too – we look a little different on average than south of 49

The average Bollywood actor accurately represents Pakistanis/Kashmiris/Punjabis. In India, light skin is deemed better looking and is disproportionately represented in the media. It’s typical of the North, not only because of colder climate, but because there are more Persian/Turkish genes mixed with Indo-Aryan genes up there. Pakistanis look more “middle eastern” and are on average lighter skinned than most Indians because of this, and same thing with Punjabis/Kashmiris.
I made a male average of some Pakistanis and Punjabis, especially with some faces considered “representative” of the regions. I used pictures I had on my computer, so the average is a lot more attractive than the average guy, but it looks roughly like most of my cousins and uncles (I am punjabi), so its accurate enough.

I hate the look of the Bollywood faces as they not at all representative of the vast majority of India. They only represent a look that is common among upper caste/class north west Indians. It is poison to the minds of india’s children that only one beauty ideal is promoted.

The Egyptian composite is hogwash. Egypt is in Africa after all, and except for the Northern cities, most Egyptians look quite African. The original people of Egypt and of North Africa were African descent. Your composites are meaningless and aren’t scientific at all. Selecting pictures off the Internet is no objective science. Even if you try to include variety there is still bias as to which kinds of people are posted online. Egyptians that immigrate to the US and those on the web are from Northern cities and disproportionately of Euro mixture. Unlike most Egyptians. If you were to travel THROUGHOUT Egypt and NOT just the Northern CITIES of Cairo, etc, the people would look drastically different from that composite.
Your composites are more Caucasianized on average than the real people of these countries. And go figure. Since most countries copy white Western beauty, and since most of the privileged classes in third world nations have Euro admixture and/or lighter skin, the pictures on the Web will reflect that. Online pictures DO NOT give you an average of what a nation looks like. You will be greatly deceived in many cases if you think so.
And what’s with the female composites having lighter skin than the male composites? DO NOT tell me that it’s natural or that women are lighter skinned on average than their men. That will DEEPLY insult my intelligence. Women of each race and nation have the shame shades as the males. I know. I have eyes. So please tell me, why did you do that? Why do most of these composites seem to have lighter skin (except for East Asia) than what most people have of that nationality? Did you make the skin transparent so that the facial features will blend through so that we can “see” the average?

Actually men do have darker skin than woman within the same ethnic group, human skin color is sexually dimorphic (women are the ‘fair sex’). This is mostly due to differing hormone levels.
Human skin-color sexual dimorphism: A test of the sexual selection hypothesis. Reply to Frost (2007) (p NA)
Lorena Madrigal, William Kelly
Human skin-color sexual dimorphism: A test of the sexual selection hypothesis (p NA)
Peter Frost
Women have lighter skin than men do across a wide range of populations, even on the unexposed skin of the upper inner arm, possibly because of sexual selection by men for lighter-skinned women. If this hypothesis is true, human skin color should become more sexually dimorphic with increasing distance from the equator, since sexual selection for lighter skin in women would be less constrained by natural selection for darker skin in both sexes. Yet when Madrigal and Kelly (2006) analyzed skin reflectance data from 53 different samples, they found that the most dimorphic human populations were actually those of medium skin color at medium latitudes.
Next time get familiar with the research before commenting.
I have also been to Egypt, I was there a month before the revolution, my friend used to work for the American Embassy. It is true that upper Egyptians are darker, and gradually fade to what most Western people will consider “black”, basically Nubian, but where are most Egyptians located? Lower Egypt. What is the population and density? Upper Egypt is not very populated and probably has not been since Greek or Roman times. If you do a composite based on the “average” what is it going to look like if it is really “the average”?
If you write something else stupid on my blog I will delete it. The purpose of the blog is to discuss intelligently, learn, or teach. You are doing none of the above.

Next time, read before replying. I already said before:
“DO NOT tell me that it’s natural or that women are lighter skinned on average than their men. That will DEEPLY insult my intelligence. Women of each race and nation have the shame shades as the males. I know. I have eyes.”
You clearly believe in pseudo science. Your argument about Egypt’s populace is debatable. It is your reply and this blog that are stupid. But don’t worry, I won’t visit this ridiculous blog again.
