are you planning on any other african averages..?
such as the maghreb : morocco, algeria, libya, tunisia, egypt?
as a ‘composite’ myself (spanish/french) and with a moroccan partner, I’d be interested in what you come up with and whether there is such a thing as an “average” north african. (I’m often taken for a berber and/or a kabyle, thats why i’m asking.)
thanks anyway, a fascinating experiment..

Uhm…no not planning to do any North Africans, well I was thinking about doing an Egyptian composite, but this becomes very hard in MENA because a lot of women don’t like their pictures taken and few people have internet access compared to the West (also why I don’t have many of SubSahara Africa). I would have to look through thousands of pictures online to find 15-20 that are forward facing with a small – to – no smile to make a composite from. That’s too much work.

Hey there from Carolina! I am just bored at the job i really thought we would surf your web site on my apple iphone during lunch time. I enjoy the data an individual present right here and should not wait to take a look when I go back home. I am just pleasantly surprised about how soon your blog packed on my own cell phone .. I’m not also employing Wi-fi compatability, only Third generation .. Anyway, great blog!

Seriously “few people have internet access” ?! So many cliche, that Americans have about the rest of the world! internet is wide spread in those countries too and believe it or not if you’ve seen the number of North Africa’s folks taking picture of themselves and posting them on Facebook and Twitter you’ll stop saying things like “women don’t like their pictures taken” …Open up your eyes, the world isn’t just about the west !
Anyway, i really like your work i wish someday we’ll see the averages of most of the countries composing this planet ! Good luck

Talking about ethnicity, north africa is quite diffeent from the rest of africa, but yeah, anyway, that’s a reason to put specific average faces of at list maghreb coutries ( morocco, algeria, tunisia and libya ) alone, and also sahel apart, then egypt.

Regarding West Africa, From Senegal to Angola????Angolans are part of the Bantu ethnic group. West African are various and very different. You have a Sahelian group, Niger, Burkina, Mali, Senegal and Black mauritaneans. The foulanies, South Niger, North Benin, North Nigeria, North Togo. The coastal group South Nigeria, South Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone. All those people are very distinctive. You can spot a senegalese (Dark Slender, Tall) from a Southern Nigerian , beninois or togolese (shorter, bulkier) in a second. Once again, you view africa as a country not a continent. This lacks research. especially when include Gabon, Cameroon, Angola etc… in West Africa. They do not look alike at all.

I assume the composities for Africa are “in progress.” It’s a bit racist to have an entire conteninet represented by 4 regions…. especially in comparisons to other continents…like Europe and Asia. Nigerians and Ghanians have some marked differences and that too deserves to be highlighted.

The North Africans who’ve commented here are so rude. I doubt this person is being paid to do this. If you what to see a North African composite so bad, then you take the time out to do it. If I were the person who put these together I wouldn’t put a NA composite together just because you guys responded so rudely.

Dear Soundous and Ador. MAKE YOUR OWN BLEEPING COMPOSITE. Its not the “Westerner’s” fault if you have an inferiority complex, and if you would look at his “about me” page you would see that he is probably more well traveled and educated than you.

Angola is not West Africa. It is Southern Africa. The people are Bantus, like the Southern Africans. So they are actually represented by South Africa in this article. Thanks.

It’s hard to find pictures of various African ethnic groups. Most of this is done by internet. I have to find and identify the ethnic group of the person but also get a good photo of them not smiling and facing forward.
Many nations due to internet penetration, cultural norms (Muslim nations often tend to not have a lot of women posting pictures), etc. make it hard. You are welcome to do it yourself.
Please show me your results.
